Danny MITCHELL was born in Lincoln.
His parents John and Rose were Musicians and worked around the club
circuit. Johns day job was as a railway engine driver (steam) and it
was this that bought the family to Stainforth in the nineteen twenties.
The sons were musical but only Danny made his career from it.
Danny formed the Lindholme Dance Band in 1926
During the War years he was like many a Bevin Boy and worked as a miner
in Hatfield Main Colliery.
The family went to live in Fishlake where Dan was the church organist.
He developed a choir there.
Dan went on to form the Hawian Combo with his brother Eric on base,
brother in law Ted Hemsworth on violin and later clarinet, and Dan Dockerty
remembered forever as Danny Dohinee on steel guitar. Another brother
in law, Ernie Hemsworth played Spanish guitar, and later Dan's two girls
joined the combo dressed as Hawian girls singing in close harmony.
The family then moved to Redcar where the now 17 piece band played for
dancing at the Pier Ballroom. Dan doubled for Felix Mendelson a well
know Band Leader, and still came to Stainforth to what was then the
OBJ Working Mens Club and the Miners Welfare with his dance band.
He was well know as an organist and owned a famous Wurlitzer.
Cheers
