I was born & bred in Stainforth. I see the developers want to change our village by building a marina and develop the surrouding areas. Why? Do they want to spoil Stainforths environment and turn a wildlife haven into a concrete jungle. I can think of other areas around the village which need developing. Come on Stainforth Town Council use your head and don't spoil our little bit of countryside. After all you are obliged to protect our dwidling countryside arn't you?

I have meny happy memories of six week summer holidays in Stainforth.Walking up the st Emerson Ave with my nana Lee.In the fifties, and sixties Stainforth for me 10, 12, 14,year old was a very exciting place to be.My grandad worked down the pit as a fitter so did my two uncles i remember famlies who worked down the pit got X amount of free coal every month. In 1972 my grandad died i will never forget leaving the house in the funeral car opposite the pit club 2 oclock. Changing of the shift, there were hundreds of miners stood still, cap in hand heads bowed as we drove away,a special moment for me at our time of loss.I still get excited now when i go back 50 years on. Nev.

Thanks to the people of Stainforth and around who have supported my sister Isobel and all of the family since Tommy died earlier this year. The family have been amazing and all of you have all been a tremendous help.I was very touched by the good wishes of neighbours and friends as we walked round the village and at the car boot sale, everywhere we went there was a cuddle or a kind word. It is lovely to know that so many friends are there Isobel and her family.

Hi Adge. I have just found your interesting web site and was intrigued to notice your listing of one William Jolliffe - keel owner of 'Garland'. My father's ancestors were Jolliffes, many of them working as watermen/boatmen on the Yorkshire canals. It is possible that William is part of that family. Could you possibly let me know the source of your information so that I can follow it up? Thanks, Elaine.

Hi I am researching my family history, Bowling, and was most interested and excited to find reference on your website to them I refer to the photo's you show of 'Bowling Butchers' I assume this is Isaac Henry Bowling 1872 - Abt 1929 who I have on my tree as a Butcher in Stainforth. Isaac was father of Frederick Freeman Bowling who lived in Stainforth his wife was Ada Mary and they had at least four children including a Frederick Ian Bowling born 1928. The article below the picture mentions that Bowling family played quite a part in Stainforth and I wondered if you have any further details you would be willing to pass on? I have copied the picture of the Butchers shop which is rather small and wondered if you had a fuller copy? I also believe that members of the family may still live in Stainforth ? Thanks in advance for reading this mail.
