Sent: 16/10 16:11 Basra Bailey, the swans are still there, so is the car boot. The tipplar house is gone, ashy banks has no frogs, flat tops is gone. The white bridge is gone, so is the belting, the tip no longer smokes, the nut tree no longer holds you by your label, the turntable can't be climbed into, tom puddings don't mean anything to todays kids. BUT, we know they were there, and while we tell our kids they will always be there. Ps - The iron bridge will ALWAYS be there. Name: Buff Sent: 11/10 13:16 With regard to John Parkins comment about the football incident i'm not surprised at all. I had the misfortune of going to that school and they were the worst years of my life! It felt like the majority of kids there were total morons who had no respect for anyone and I was happy to leave. Name: Peter Hurley Sent: 07/10 03:00 Hatfield Coalpower Brass Band are giving a free Celebration Concert this Wednesday 8th October 7.30pm at St Mary's Parish Church, Stainforth. All welcome and refreshments included Name: Adge Sent: 06/10 16:14 I mentioned the band's wonderful success on the STH forum on the day following their victorious return. I'll be adding a page to this site all about the band's history and recent achievement as soon as I can get my hands on some photographs to use for illustrating the piece. Name: Local Historian Sent: 06/10 15:28 Well done to the local Brass band! Surely Stainforth Town Council snould acknowledge your success with some kind of award or presentation to either individuals or preferably the whole band. By the way I saw Kate Adie delivering newspapers in Kingsway last week!! Name: Margaret Curran nee Hedley City: Dunscroft Doncaster Sent: 06/10 12:40 Hi, It is a great site, and very interesting comments, I lived in Stainforth for 26 years at the 'Back of Broughs' as it was know Lord Street, I had lots of happy years, no problems, now it looks like Beiruit but only down to people. I have not seen mentioned the local Brass Band, that was formed in 1947, and is still going strong, infact we have just become National Brass Band Champions of Great Britain. Hows that for a local supposedly "village band" Name: Basra Bailey City: Basra Sent: 03/10 01:26 I've been in Basra too long am coming home at Christmas I am really missing the rain and the frost in a morning, and walking down the river Don bank towards Bramwith. Are there still loads of Swans on the Cut bhind the Old Club? We dont have Swans over here we have Cmals and wild Donkeys! Name: John Parkin Sent: 30/09 06:46 Alarming article in this mornings newspaper that members of Hatfield High Schools football team were racially abusing black opponents from a school in Sheffield. One spectator was quoted as saying football just took second place to the insults. I wonder what the teacher in charge was doing? This just seems to underline what a complete mess Hatfield High School is in. Remember, in 2002 Hatfield High was ranked 17th out of 18 schools in Doncaster regarding Key Stage 3 results and 16th out of 18 in G.C.S.E passes. What hope have Stainforth children or for that matter any children achieving their potential at Hatfield High School? Name: len City: stainforth Sent: 20/09 12:37 Thanks to Christine Hemsworth for her fantastic article on the churches of our area. very interesting and informative, keep up the good work Christine. Thank you Name: len goodwin City: stainforth Sent: 14/09 12:55 Adge you've brought Stainforth & its history into the homes of a lot of appreciative people, don't let the actions of one individual distract you from your aims and objectives regarding this site. yours leng Name: Adge City: Stainforth Sent: 14/09 04:00 It's great to see people are interested in local issues and are visiting this site to discuss them. There is now a forum (STH__Forum) where such discussions can be carried on and which is much more suitable for the purpose than this guestbook. You'll also find a link to take you there on the home page of this site. However, a certain individual has been carrying on a harrassment campaign against me since I was given the forum and insists on making childish and petulant postings regarding the operation of the forum. If anyone is interested in being a moderator on the STH forum please contact me and we'll discuss the options. Adge. Name: Rogan City: Stainforth Sent: 13/09 19:25 Does it matter? Flush the toilet, turn out the light. Name: Danger Mouse Sent: 12/09 14:48 you seem to have missed the point of my message. That is: It is the mindlessness of the individual tenant, whose actions are perpetrated with no regard for their neighbour, that is to blame. Yes, the local authority can clean up after them, but to do so it to spend money from the public purse that means that other services suffer as a result. What is more, the problem doesn't go away. If you have tenants acting in such a way, then you should apply all possible pressure to your local council (DMBC) representative so that legal action is taken against these individuals. However, this might be more difficult to persue in the case of home owners (or is your argument that only tenants create such havoc). As a tenant myself, I can understand the anger of those who bought into the Thatcher dream of home ownership, (designed to divide and conquer the Trades Unions and the working classes) only to realise too late that their little piece of heaven was still in the same street, surrounded by the same people as it was when it was just another council house. It is clear that many - though not all - home owners take good care of their property, while some - but again not all - tenants have little or no regard for the maintenance of the property rented to them by the locsl authority. Under recent guidelines issued by DMBC, tenants are responsible for such maintenance and failure to comp[ly can lead to eviction. Clearly, if the council is failing to take suitable action against such tenants then it is failing in its duty and should be taken to task. This is the job of your elected representatives. I wish you luck if you decide to take action against these local residents, although I will be amazed if you find that all of the offenders are tenants, and even more astounded if any action short of eviction will persuade these people to change their habits. It is an unfortunate side affect of the Tory years - that taught us how to be selfish and greedy - that no-one cares any longer for the feelings and sensitivities of others. Name: waykings up Sent: 11/09 14:34 i'm finding hard to see were the mouse is coming from with his remarks about tenants and their responsibilities does not the local authority have a responsibility to ensure tenants abide by their tenancy agreements the fact of the matter is that tenants are getting away with vandalising their own and other peoples properties their gardens are overflowing with rubbish when they fill the gardens it then overflows onto our streets the local authority who manage these properties just bury their heads in the sand pretend and it isn't happening AFTER READING THE MOUSES REMARKS I CAN ONLY ASSUME HE/SHE DOESN'T LIVE IN STAINFORTH IF YOU DO TAKE A WALK DOWN KINGSWAY AND TURN LEFT INTO QUEENS CRESCENT AND SEE HOW THE INHERENT TENANTS LOOK AFTER THEIR PROPERTIES.THEN YOU CAN EXPLAIN TO THE COMMUNITY SPIRITED PEOPLE WHO STILL LIVE IN THEIR OWN HOMES HOW THEY CAN GET THEIR ONCE BEAUTIFUL COMMUNITIES BACK. Name: Danger Mouse Sent: 09/09 15:19 why should tenants want to "get away with" anything. When Millions of £'s of public money - paid out of the pockets of all contributing members of society - is spent on improving the condition of social housing, it is surely inherent upon the residents to take care of those properties. The idea that you can create as much mess as possible, safe in the knowledge that someone else will clean up after you is both repugnant and irresponsible. Indeed, it is this type of thinking that will lead to the demise of all public housing provision, leading us back to the dark ages of Victorian Britain, where the haves have and the have not's have nothing. There is much talk on these pages about the good old days, when there was a community spirit alive and kicking in Stainy. The nonsence spouted by waykings up (?) epitomise the selfish and spiritless thinking that is responsible for tearing the heart out of such communities. Name: waykings up Sent: 02/09 13:57 No matter what lies our councillors insist on peddalling to us, we must never forget we don't build slums it takes years and years to create one. Tenants will only get away with what they are allowed too. Sent: 01/09 17:43 why not take a leaf out of Thorne council's books private land lord in Corona drive realy good job making it worthy place to live now he as a deal with the council to take 50 houses on the willow estate to do the same....GET HIM TO TAKE KINGWAY ON TO DO THE SAME!!
