Lovely to see the photo of my fathers fish shop (GD & F Fowler). C Fowler my grandad, owned the shop from 1930, until my parents took over in 1958 and continued with the business until they retired. C Fowler was also a keelman and was born at Fleet House. Keep up the good work. Name: alan robson City: evesham Sent: 07/07 15:40 hi all you larger louts Name: Bert cattermole City: Rockingham Western Australia Sent: 04/07 01:15 Adge Just been reading Keels and Keelmen. Was very interesting to me.The part about the Basin was of particular interest. My Grandparents George and Emily Cattermole lived in the cottages at the basin until my Grandmothers death. The other two cottages were occupied by the Lillies and Mcgarry's.I remember as a child I used to visit my grandparents every Sunday and used to play with a boy called Chris Mcgarry. The first Sunday that I never went young Chris was drowned in the basin loch. That was probably about 55Yrs ago.I suppose the old houses are gone now.I may be visiting Doncaster next year and would like to visit the area. Can you still get access to the basin. Thanks again for the site Adge,it is nice to see lots of old familiar names. My wife Mary(Bird)knows them better than I do.Regards Bert Name: Peter Sent: 02/07 14:38 Very positive to see Kevin Hughes the local M.P making constructive and informed comments. I hope, also, Stainforth has a future, hopefully, with the Coalpower development but if not in some other way. Pity Kevin comes from Bentley and was not actually physically born in Stainforth as most of us were in the 1950,s! but he seems to be on our wavelength! Name: Kevin Hughes MP Homepage: http://www.doncasternorth.co.uk/ City: Bentley Sent: 02/07 12:57 A great site, well put together, lots of good info and historic facts. Stainforth can and should be proud of their past and look forward to a new future if the Coalpower development comes tp fruition. Name: Peter Sent: 29/06 11:03 The glory years of Stainforth. To provoke or stimulate thought! Looking through this site I wondered when, arguably, Stainforth attained its zenith. Was it in the 1930's with 7,700 residents, over 3,600 employed at the pit and many clubs and organisations being well supported or was it in the early 1970's when there were 1,700 people employed at the pit with just over 6,000 inhabitants and a Swimming Pool, Athletics track, good Secondary Modern School etc. Or is the best to come? Later lived on Ramskir View (looks like its now Thorne Road), remember them building the Harvester Pub, moved soon after it was built (1971 I think) to Edenthorpe. Now live in Nottingham, but returning soon to Donny. My memories of Stainforth include the park and open air swimming baths (now gone), that water was freezing :-) Name: Val Weir City: Edgecumbe Bay Of Plenty New Zealand Sent: 26/05 06:13 Adge I know we have our private one on one Emails. But I think I have to acknowledge on this page, my opinion of the amount of work you do to keep this site up to date. Historicaly to present day. You talk about the old historians,La Pryme and Barrass. But I now think that you know more than them, because you have their knowlege plus you have done more digging and delving ie:Inns & clubs,The Billiard Hall the Keels and Keelmen. And for someone like me who has been out of the village for 30 yrs, it gets your mind working trying to remember what it was like in the old days, and who your old mates were. So keep up the good work Adge. I know by looking at this guest page there are lot's of us out here watching. Everyone have a great day Val Name: ady beecham Homepage: http://www.gmt-on-the.net/ City: Dunscroft Sent: 25/05 07:09 No matter how many times i visit this site adge i always find something new Nice one Name: ashley City: forgot Sent: 02/05 10:58 this is a excellent site Name: June Firth Sent: 28/04 06:21 Name: TOM CLARK Sent: 27/04 10:05 Would like to contact Stainforthtypes who lived in the village b3etween 1930 and 1942 Name: June City: Gympie,Qld.Australia Sent: 26/04 07:38 How wonderful to see the positive proposals for the development of Stainforth.
