In November 1938 Mr Albert Alberry of East Lane died aged 76 years,in his working life he had been a contractor at the colliery and had travelled extensively. He built and founded the old Conservative club in East Lane which became the Constitutional Club. In 1938 his son was steward of this club.

Still an excellent site. I have had an enquiry about local Clubs, can anyone enlarge on your article which was very helpful. Was there ever a Constitutional club, and which Club was opened in 1939 immediately following the closure of another club?

I'm searching for my great grandfather, John Anderson, who left Wick, Scotland approx.1890 and as a result I take an interest in everything and everyone with the surname "Anderson". This was an interesting story about James Anderson. I am descended from Andersons from the North of Scotland and I look for resemblances. Hope to find my gt grandfather eventually.
