Hatfield Colliery
Powerfuel's application for a 900 MW Power Generation Station and its impact on Stainforth and the surrounding area

Five years ago I added an article to the Stainforthonline site which explained briefly about the plans 'Coalpower' had for Hatfield Colliery. That feature also included details of the proposed 430 MW IGCC power station.

This article takes a look at Powerfuel's proposal to extend the accepted plans to incorporate a 900 MW SYNGAS IGCC electricity generating plant. It also includes details of the proposed route for the overhead transmission line required to join the plant with Thorpe Marsh power station and the National Grid.

It begins by looking at the recent history of Hatfield Colliery, over the last 25 years or so and, through the use of South Yorkshire Coal Annual reports and a short British Coal film, attempts to ask the question of why the potential of the Hatfield site has been ignored by successive Governments.

We then introduce the proposals to the reader through a html version of Powerfuel's Non Technical Summary. As with most of the images used in this article, the user can click on the maps to enlarge them.

On another page we look at the proposal in just a little more detail, and more specifically, what the Power Park will mean to Stainforth and its inhabitants.

The final page contains a thank you to Powerfuel for their help in providing the information used to create these pages, as well as thanks to all who have helped me with photographs and advice used to create these pages. There are also links to web sites which may be of interest to the reader and links to downloadable pdf versions of some items used in this article.
